Today Year 6 were visited by the NSPCC. We focused on the message ‘Speak out. Stay safe’. We listened carefully about the work of Childine and why we may contact them and how we could. We discussed what is okay and not okay in our lives and how we can speak to a trusted adult if something is not okay.
Today we were joined by Mrs Gray. We explored the courses of the River Tyne and explored features that we may see in those courses. Mrs Gray was very impressed with our knowledge so we were then introduced to the processes of erosion, transportation and deposition. We were then challenged to make our own models using play dough and labelled the features. It was an excellent lesson.
In class worship today, the children gathered whilst singing ‘The Servant King.’ They placed both hands together like a bowl where they placed a sad or scary memory. They then blew on their hands to blow the memory away. They listened to the Word based on Luke 24:13-35 led by Ellenor, Grace and Millie. Going forth, the children decided they would take a few moments during the day to say a quiet prayer.
A massive well done to our Mini Vinnies, who are helping to support our Bullying Intervention Group, share information on Anti-Bullying in our assembly today. As most of you are aware, we have worn odd socks today to share how we are all unique and individual. The children learnt how sometimes people may be unkind but bullying is something that happens several times over and over again.
To mark Remembrance Day we made our own poppies. We wrote prayers of thanks to everyone who has made the sacrifice of keeping all of us safe.
We then made a display of our poppies.
Lest we Forget!
Today Year 6 went to the local fire station to take part in the RAP Event (Reducing Accidents at Play). The children were split into different groups and took part in a variety of workshops to help to keep them safe. The children were given talks by the Northern Powergrid, RNLI, Fire Services, Nexus, Road Safety and a group of nurses. We listened carefully and thought about how we are going to take positive actions to grow up safely.
This week in Pastoral Care, we thought about energy forms and how we can save energy to help our planet. In Mrs Waite’s group, the children discussed the forms of energy we have and made a mind map about ways to save energy to be more eco-friendly. We shared our thoughts and are now going to put some of these actions into our daily lives.
Year 6 have been very excited about the election of Head Boy and Head Girl. We gathered in the hall this morning to hear all of their wonderful speeches. We were all blown away by the confidence of the children and their ideas which were all so unique. They have made this a very difficult decision. We will look forward to hearing the results. Well done to our candidates!
Today, our school choir took a visit to Needham Court to sing a variety of Christmas Songs to the residents there. We had lots of fun performing some of our favourites such as Silent Night and Jingle Bells.
