Year 2 have been learning to tell the time to quarter to, quarter past, half past and o’clock. The children did very well showing me the times on their clocks and playing games to tell the time. Growing more confident and quarter to and quarter past. Keep it up year 2!
We have had lots of fun this no pen day reading; The Rhyming Rabbit by Julia Donaldson. Since we couldn’t pick up a pen and write about the book we decided to act it out. We all took on different characters and retold the story of the book to the whole school in an assembly at the end of the day. We had great fun dressing up and learning the poems. Well Done Year 2!
Today for Ash Wednesday classes 2-6 went to church to take part in Ash Wednesday Mass. Our Reception class and Year 1 children held their own class liturgies. Our head boy and girl read beautifully along with Sienna who read the prayers wonderfully also. The children learnt all about what Ash Wednesday means and why we take part in it. Fr Saji talked about Lent and things we could give up or take on during Lent. The children sang beautifully, so much so members of the parish rang to say how well behaved and lovely the singing was. The children then came away from Mass and discussed in classes what they can do this Lent.
Today year 2 have been looking at the Eucharistic prayer and discussing what each part of it meant. We took the verse, ‘heaven and earth are full of your glory’ and we decided to paint what we thought heaven and earth looked like. We looked at different paintings by famous artists of heaven and earth. We then went away and painted our own pictures. What do you think?
On Monday Nursery, Reception and Year 2, all went to church to help find out more information about their current RE topic. Nursery had to find different items around the church, whilst Reception and Year 2 spoke to Mr Finley and asked him questions that they had prepared. Year 2 went on to look at the different books around the church and how they are used. A huge thank you to Mr Finley for answering questions and helping show the children around the church.
show love and look after each other. As part of our books topic, we have been learning about how we can show love and act like Jesus. The children said that here in St Mary’s we work, play and pray together. We help people up when they fall down, we give hugs to say sorry, we listen to others, we show respect, we share stories, we help others less fortunate, we raise money for charities and speak kind words. The children then showed how we do this around school. Keep up the good work Year 2!
This term we have been exploring books in RE. We have been sharing our favourite books and looking at books that are important to us. We have shared stories from the Bible and retold them to the class. Here are some of our favourite books. What is yours?
Year 2 have been discussing how Mary and Joseph prepared for birth of Jesus. We discussed how they must have been feeling and shared the story of Jesus birth. We then created a song to match the story that we had just read and included ways in which we show love at Christmas. We then presented this song to the class. We were very impressed!
Year 2 had the most wonderful day with More than Dance today, Deacon Kevin and the girls came into to share a day of dance, music and prayer based around the story, Guess how much I love you. The children learnt two dances to silent night and how long will I love you. They then discussed what makes them special and how we know Jesus loves us. We shared what we love about our family and friends and then the whole school gathered for a liturgy, where the children shared what they had been learning about and their liturgical dances. A huge thank you to everyone at More than Dance for an amazing day!
