Instructor Profiles

 

The permanent staff form a well qualified team of outdoor professionals. They have a wealth of experience both of the activities themselves and of safely leading and teaching young people. The centre’s commitment to Continuous Professional Development ensures all instructors keep up to date with developments. All activity staff are qualified and experienced first aiders.

Andy Stubbs Cert Ed - Head of Centre

Outdoor Qualifications: Mountain Instructor Award,  Mountain Leader Summer and Winter; British Canoe Union (BCU) Level 3 Coach (Kayak) & 4 star Canoe; Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Dinghy Senior Instructor & Powerboat Safety Cert; Offroad Mountain Bike Leader OTC & ESCA offroad Leader. Swift Water Technician and Accredited Practitioner for the Institute of Outdoor Learning - APIOL.

Experience: Over 25 years experience teaching Outdoor Education in a variety of Centres, Married with 3 Children.

Permanent Instructors

Andy Sallabank B.Sc, PGCE.  Principle Instructor.          

Outdoor Qualifications; Mountain Instructor Certificate, BCU level 4 Coach (Canoe), Mountain Bike Leader, Level 2 coach Kayak, RYA level 4 Powerboat instructor. Level 2 Cave Leader and MLTE course provider.

Experience; Andy has worked in Outdoor Education for over 20 years and is deputy Leader of one of the local Mountain Rescue Teams.

Dave Hollingham B.A.

Outdoor Qualification: Mountain Instructor Award, Mountain Leader (winter); BCU Level 3 Coach (Sea), Level 2 Coach (Canoe), RYA Dinghy Instructor

Experience: Dave combines a 50% job share with Pip with work with his own clients. He has worked in a number of centres and for himself.

Steve Randles.

Outdoor Qualifications. Mountain Leader Summer & Single Pitch Climbing Award. RYA trainee Instructor - Dinghy & safety boat cert. British Canoe level 4 Coach (Kayak) canoe safety assessor & currently Regional Coaching Officer. Trail Cycle Leader Award and Accredited Practitioner for the Institute of Outdoor Learning. APIOL.

Experience. Steve has worked in a number of centres including Outward Bound both in the Lakes and Canada.

Cheryl King.

Outdoor Qualifications. Mountain Leader Summer. OTC Mountain Bike Leader. BCU Level 1 Coach in Paddlesport. Single Pitch Award (trained).

Experience. Cheryl combines helping run the office with instructing on courses.

 Alastair and Luke are the current trainee instructors, working with the permanent instructors  delivering an outdoor programme to clients while gaining experience and undertaking national governing body awards when appropriate.

The permanent staff are augmented by a team of freelance instructors and teachers whose competence and qualification are checked and approved by the centre's senior management team before they are employed
